CONFIRMED: 15 Chinese 'Doctors' On A Private Mission, Not Working For Nigeria
It has turned out that the 15 “Chinese Doctors” Nigerians were told were coming to help the country fight COVID-19, for which there was a lot of outcries before and after their arrival, are on a private mission after all.
Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, had first officially rekindled interest about the mission when he told a stunned audience that he was not aware of the whereabouts of the personnel, described at one point as “doctors” and another as “medical experts.” The Minister, it was who first hinted that the visitors, were actually working for construction giant, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Nigeria Ltd, a completely different story from what Nigerians were told at various times.
On Monday, Managing Director of the company, Michael Yigao, corroborated this much, when he told reporters that the 15 Chinese medical experts who arrived in the country on April 8 were actually in the country to help train its staff in the prevention of the coronavirus.
He said: “The team had a telecast meeting with the Minister of Health and some doctors around the country and shared their experience in China on how they’re fighting the virus and the meeting was very positive. “They are here with us and have continued to teach our staff how to protect themselves because protection and prevention are more important than the treatment. “Most of the workers understand the situation now and they know the risk, so they follow the proper procedures and cooperate with their instructors.” The CCECC boss added that the medical experts would be heading home as soon as there was a commercial flight to China.
